Getting Social – Know Your Brand

by Alex B.

While eclectic may work with fashion, mixing up your social style is a formula for disaster. If you don’t already have a strong brand strategy, then you’re not properly equipped to build long-lasting relationships on Facebook or any other social network for that matter.

Take care of your brand first and you’ll live long and prosper on Facebook.

So, first things first. Get your brand established and then make sure your staff and your campaigns are in line with that message (brand personality, brand values, brand equities, brand promise, your targets’ emotional and rational needs).

Social Media is a great way to develop relationships with your clients, but make sure that each touch provides a consistent message. That helps your clients feel “comfortable” within this virtual world.

If you don’t have a brand personality, this lack of charisma will be magnified by social media. But to be sure your page doesn’t end up in the Sickbay, don’t forget to first figure out if your brand is funny, helpful, nerdy, or nice.

When you have your brand, or if you need a hand to get it established, contact us to see how our “First Impression” App allows you to create a custom Facebook welcome page to provide a consistent message. Because the last thing you need is a split personality that makes your fans think you’re from another planet!

We encourage all our clients to verify their Google Places (formerly Google Maps) listing which will allow you to add your business information, provide you with analytics, etc.

Facebook Places allows people to “check in.” Make this a regular habit for your employees to do this each day!
By doing that their network of friends will be exposed to your business through their activity wall.

Encourage your customers to “check in” while at your store (we can help you with QR Codes to make this quick and painless for them!) by giving coupons, etc. You will be able to track loyalty over time and that will give you better business intelligence and the ability to reward your loyal customers.

Members of our Facebook community are eligible for our special network price of $25 to assist you with your Places verification. Put our experience to use!

We are often, ” How do I keep my personal Facebook information separate from my business contacts and communication?” Fortunately, you can create LISTS in Facebook and use them to segment your personal and business contacts.

To create and customize your own Friend Lists, please follow these steps:

1. Go to your Friends page and Click on Account drop-down at the top of any page and click on “Edit Friends.”
2. Click the Create New List button at the top of the page to create a new list, or type the name of a friend in the left-side search field to add a friend to an existing list. You can also click on an existing Friend List on the left-side of the page, and then click on the Edit List button.

If you have more than two Friend Lists, you can easily add or remove friends from lists by using the drop-down menu that appears next to their names on the “All Friends” tab of the Friends page.

The beauty of this?

1. You can set privacy levels for each list.

2. You can check and view each news feed separately to keep up with each group.

3. Most importantly, you can post and invite each group separately which is much nicer for all your friends!

Unfortunately, from everything I’ve read, Apple will milk the current iPad version until 2nd quarter next year. Too bad!

Good news, Samsung Galaxy Tablet (7 inches) will be out in November and has a camera and is A PHONE! Cool! Just waiting to see the subsidized price…. but if you can hold out a bit longer, there are several tablets due out in 2011–the year of the tablet! That means the “Tickle Me Elmo” for adults this holiday season will be tablets–just hard enough to get to cause that “frenzy.” Should be entertaining!

If you’re a small business, one of the best things you can do is take advantage of Google’s tools. One of the easiest is Google Places (formerly, Google Maps).

Google Places offers opportunities to describe your business both in words and pictures, show off your videos and even provide coupons–all based on that all important map! Google Places results have been showing up on first page of Google Search Results, so get your business listed!

As of today, Google Places announced that you, as business owner, can respond to feedback from customers. This is great news! While it is hard to hear negative feedback, having a chance to respond does demonstrate your level of concern and helps you to build relationships with your customers. Having a few bad reviews (especially ones you have been given a chance to respond to positively) is not all bad. Customers often judge the reviews to be more “real” if they are not ALL five stars!

Our team at MediaTrik includes Google Places completion with all our website / wordpress designs. We suggest you adopt this service too!
